An opera about ancestry and memory, time, obliteration and enlightenment. Different, yet connected to a world spirit rooted in positivism, the opera Tree of Codes by Australian composer Liza Lim emerges from Street of Crocodiles. In this opera, it becomes visible and audible how the new is always contained within the old, and how they constantly refer to and build upon one another. The opera is composed of different temporal layers; heterogeneous temporal realities which exist in parallel beyond the normal, linear calendar. This poetic and sensual collision between past, present and future allows for the perception of different realities.
